The First Step

Hey Guys,

As I am new to the blogging world, I thought the first step is to introduce myself and how I started my journey to becoming a teacher.

My name is Maddison, but I prefer to be called Maddi. I am studying a Bachelor of Education at the University of Southern Queensland. In my degree I am studying to become a secondary teacher majoring in Mathematics and minoring in Junior History. I know it is a very interesting combination.

When I was in school I use to struggle quite a bit, well, that happens when you have a learning disability. Yep, I am a preservice teacher with a learning disability. I find that with my learning disability I am able to understand and help students in my classroom no matter if they have a disability of not. It can be a struggle to be doing a degree with this disability but I make it work.

Now, how did I start my journey to becoming a teacher. I have never thought of being a teacher as a career until I was in year 9 and that this Maths teacher that was dedicated to her students and believing that we all can do something great with our lives. This Maths teacher had a way of teaching that was enjoyable and also helped my to really understand what I was learning. I went from being a C average student in primary school to becoming a standard B to A by the end of high school.

I want to be the teacher that inspires, supports and encourages their students. By doing this I believe the students can meet their full potential.
